Elaine Taylor

I had an extremely bad break of my left arm to shoulder in February, 2017. The doctor advised me that it would take a year to get good range of motion back. My doctor was amazed with my progress yesterday, October 26, 2017 and has released me from his care and physical therapy! Brandon was my therapist & he was great! They are all great! I would recommend Pinnacle Physical therapy to everyone! I had a lot of personal issues going on during my thrapy and still exceeded my doctor’s expectations. I expect to be going back there soon to take care of my back and neck now.

Understanding the Pain in Elbows, Wrists, and Hands in Columbia

The pain in your elbows, wrists, or hands can range from a mild annoyance to a debilitating condition, varying in severity due to factors like your daily activities. You may experience symptoms such as tingling, numbness, or difficulty in gripping or holding items. This discomfort can significantly hamper your everyday life, impacting your ability to perform routine tasks with ease and efficiency.

Identifying Common Causes of Discomfort in Elbows, Wrists, and Hands

The pain in these areas can arise from several conditions, including:

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: This involves pressure on the median nerve in your wrist, leading to pain, numbness, and a tingling sensation, often extending from your wrist to your elbow.
  • Cubital Tunnel Syndrome: Caused by a constriction of tissues in the elbow impacting the ulnar nerve, this condition can result in weakness, tingling, or numbness, particularly in the pinky and ring fingers.
  • Bursitis: Stemming from repetitive use, bursitis is the inflammation of the fluid-filled sacs that cushion your tendons and joints, leading to pain in areas like the elbows and shoulders.
  • Arthritis: Affecting millions, arthritis can lead to varying degrees of joint pain and stiffness, including in the elbows, wrists, and hands.
  • Sprains and Strains: Common in physical activities and sports, these injuries can result from overuse or abrupt movements, particularly affecting the wrists and hands.

Transforming Lives with Physical Therapy

Physical therapy stands as a potent remedy for addressing pain in the elbows, wrists, and hands, offering a viable alternative to surgical interventions. The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) notes that manual physical therapy can be more effective than surgery for specific conditions, including carpal tunnel syndrome. Our physical therapists collaborate with your primary healthcare provider to identify the root cause of your pain. We thoroughly assess your flexibility and strength, formulating a tailored treatment plan. This approach may involve exercises and stretches to improve stability and mobility, complemented by heat and ice therapy, massage, or electrical stimulation.
